June ’26 Chess League Results

A new month, bigger room and larger playing spaces and new players as we dive into the June Chess League. A CCCA record 37 registrants as we start the 2nd half of the 2026 Chess League at the Columbia County Library!

Open Section

Eight players charged into the Open section, with high aspirations of gaining ground on 1st Place in the Chess League Standings. Matthew Campbell and Brian Manzo finished their day in a drawn game, tied for 1st Place at 2.5 / 3 points. Lily She and Tamaghna Roy finish their day with 2.0 / 3 points tied for 3rd Place.

Alexander Looney returns to the top position of the Chess League standings (Open division) with William Bowman and Lily closely behind.

U1300 Section

Another full field in the U1300 Section included newcomer John Jenkins. John quickly establishes himself as a contender, going 2.5 / 3 points on the day to finish in 1st Place. Rick Hardy and Vedant Tiwari finish 2.0 / 3 points tied in 2nd Place

Peter Newton maintains the slimmest of leads in the Chess League standings, Vedant Tiwari trails by only one-half of a point in 2nd Place, with Ryan Kim only another half-point behind in 3rd.

U800 Section

Jonah Bailey storms into the June Chess League and takes no prisoners! He goes perfect on the day, 4.0 / 4 points winning 1st Place outright! Jordan Brunson battles through the day finishing with a clear 2nd Place victory at 3.5 / 4 points and Isaiah German continues his impressive play this year finishing in 3rd place with 3.0 / 4 points.

Atharva builds his lead in the U800 Chess League standing, with a comfortable cushion to the rest of the players in the division.

U400 Section

The excitement and enthusiasm grows each month in the Beginners section. After a tough day, there finished a 3-way tie between Brendan Barnes, Zoya Looney and Evan Tran. Congratulations to all three as they finish the day with 3.0 / 4 points!

After the win, Zoya Looney takes over the top spot of the standings with Erin Charles in 2nd Place. Brendan Barnes advances back to the U800 section with his outstanding performance!
